Theater, Bazaars, Paranormal Events (which could also describe the Election ~ Go VOTE this week!)


The calendar at Norristown.org seems to be working now, though hardly anyone is listing their events there at the moment. If you have an event that's open to the public, please go list it at http://www.norristown.org/town-calendar.html. All you have to do it fill out the form. Just be careful to put in the correct dates and don't list the event as repeating unless it actually does. You can also list events at The Norristown Project/Montco OIC site at this link.

Friday, Nov 4, 5-9 pm and Saturday, Nov 5, 10 am-4 pm at St Francis Church (Buttonwood and W Marshall), Christmas Bazaar in the school gym. Visit with Santa Saturday from noon-3 pm.

Friday, 7-11 pm at Five Saints Distillery (Green and Main), Friday night Karaoke. Different DJ each week.

Friday, 8 pm at Theatre Horizon (401 Dekalb). Last weekend for the musical "A New Brain."  Other performances this weekend are Saturday (2 and 8 pm), Sunday (2 pm). Tickets on sale at this link


Saturday, November 5, 9:30-11:30 am, Coffee With A Cop at Greater Norristown PAL (340 Harding). North end residents, come meet your neighborhood cops. Ask question, express concerns. The NPD will also distribute the gloves and hats they collected at this event.

Saturday, 11 am-5 pm at Selma Mansion (1301 W Airy), Paranormal Day. All sorts of vendors and presenters in the realm of the paranormal. Admission tickets at the door: $10 for all those above the age of 12, $5 for children (ages 5-12), seniors /veterans, and FREE for kids under 5, Norristown PD and Fire Dept personnel and active military. All proceeds from admission goes to the Norristown Preservation Society for the restoration and upkeep of Selma Mansion. Lectures will run from approximately 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. and are included with admission. For an extra fee, you can get a psychic reading. 

Saturday, 1-5 pm, Five Saints Distilling. Finding Shelter Animal Rescue Fundraiser. Come out and meet Finding Shelter volunteers and dogs and Metropolitan Veterinary Associates & Emergency Services to learn more about their veterinary services and their Paws of Promise foundation. A portion of ALL drink sales will benefit Finding Shelter. Painting with a Twist of Skippack will do a live painting of Debbie, a Bernese Mountain Dog, who is looking for a forever home. www.findingshelter.org  (Finding Shelter is, I think, located near Valley Forge.)

Saturday, 6:30-10:30 pm, Five Saints Distilling, Bobby Jara performs.

Sunday, 2-5 pm at Elmwood Park Zoo. FREE admission to Norristown residents who present photo ID. It's also Bubby's Birthday (EPZ's mascot)

Monday,  6:30-7:30 pm, Norristown Library. Unofficial NaNo Write-In. November is National Novel Writing Month. Are you up to the challenge? Whether you’re a seasoned writer or a first timer, hone your skills with others like you. Join us for a guided writing workshop featuring: warm-ups, story prompts, genre-specific exercises, and group editing. Preregistration is suggested but not required. Call 610-278-5100 ext. 0

TUESDAY, November 8, ELECTION DAY.  Find your polling location and other voting info at this link.  Find information on the candidates at Vote411.org

Tuesday, 7 pm, Municipal Hall, Planning Commission Meeting. (Usually when there's an election day, meetings are Wednesday, but this is listed as Tuesday. You might want to call Municipal Hall Monday to double check before going.)

Wednesday, 1 pm at Norristown Library (Powell and Swede) Board Room. Matinee. The movie will be "Mother's Day."

Thursdays, 5-10 pm at Five Saints Distilling. Open Mic.

Thursday,  the Norristown Police Dept will hold an Open House for young people (18-20) interested in the Law Enforcement Explorers Program. I didn't get details in time for this blog. Check the NPD's facebook page or call the station at 610-270-0977.

Next Friday, Nov 11, 5-10 pm and Saturday, 10 am-10 pm, St. Patrick Church (Dekalb and Chestnut) Christmas Bazaar in the church basement. Food, raffles, baked goods, gifts, games. Soul food and Mexican dinners.


Next Saturday, November 12, 11 am-1 pm at Norristown New Life Church (Marshall and Swede). A November to Remember.  AKA Sorority, Norristown CTC and Norristown Hospitality Center will offering a healthy hot lunch, and distribute warm gloves, hats and socks (for adults and kids). Next Saturday, 2-3 pm, Norristown Library. Free Creative Writing Workshop for National Novel Writing Month. Preregistration is encouraged so they know how many supplies to get. To register, call the library at 610-278-5100, ext 0.

The Norristown Preservation Society will be hosting their 1st Annual Holiday Craft Show at Selma Mansion on November 19th. They're looking for vendors. $15 a spot or 2 for $25. Must supply own table. This will be held inside the mansion. Santa and Christmas Carolers will be making a visit. To reserve a vendor space, call or text Dee Kirkpatrick at 484-860-2533.
