Theater, Art, Music and Taxes

A wide variety of events this week, from all kinds of arts to help with your taxes. Get out and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.

Saturday, 10 am-noon at the New Life Internet Café, 19 W. Marshall. Photo ID Clinic, for photo IDs, birth certificates, Social Security cards, voter registration information or social services applications. Bring personal identification paperwork, such as your social security card, old photo ID or driver’s license, military ID, marriage or divorce certificates, passport, naturalization or citizenship certificate, or your birth certificate. You’ll also need proof of residence, such as a rental agreement, mortgage paperwork, utility bills, medical bills, W-2 forms, work ID, tax returns or bank statements.

Monday, 9 am-1 pm at Norristown Library (Powell and Swede). AARP Tax-Aide Tax Preparation Assistance. Ongoing through April 29, The Historical Society of Montgomery County (1654 DeKalb) is running the exhibit: Norristown Remembered, The Art of Frank Batson. Norristown native Frank Batson’s paintings are inspired by his memories of Norristown and the surrounding area from the 1940’s, ‘50’s, and ‘60’s. Many of the buildings and places are long gone, but through his art, they are brought back to life. Exhibit is FREE and open to the public daily, Monday and Thursday 10 am-4:30 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 1-7:30 pm. Saturday hours vary. For info, contact 610-272-0297 or contact@hsmcpa.org. The Society is handicapped accessible.

On March 7, 5:30 to 8:30 pm, Guys For Good Fundraiser at Five Saints Distilling. Tours of the distillery, Happy Hour. $20.00 donation at the door. Silent auction and a 50/50. Donations for the silent auction are welcome (no instructions or contact info given, but try the police station). Proceeds to benefit the Norristown Police Foundation.

The Sewing Club of Ebenezer Methodist Church (234 E Spruce) is organizing a bus trip to the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC. The trip will be Saturday, April 22. $80 per person. If you're interested, call 484-674-5479.

Presidents' Day in N-Town and More




Many activities for kids and adults this Presidents' Day Weekend. Check out the Zoo and the Library, but also Valley Forge National Historical Park has FREE programs at the Visitor Center on Monday between 10 am and 2 pm for Washington's Birthday (with free birthday cake).

Friday, February 17, 2 pm at the Norristown Library (Powell and Swede). Spy Codes. Schools are off today so bring your kids to the library to learn about George Washington and Revolutionary spies. Decipher a code to find a hidden message, then make up coded messages of your own. Grades K-6. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

New Arrivals, Black History Month, Theater and More

The first Black History Month event is this week at PAL on Tuesday night, a new show opens at Theatre Horizon, and the Zoo welcomes a pair of new youngsters.

Friday, February 3, noon, Facebook live session from the Elmwood Park Zoo on their Facebook page to introduce the zoo's newest baby jaguars, born January 24th.

Also Friday at 8 pm, "Grand Concourse" opens at Theatre Horizon with a Pay-What-You-Can preview. The play will run through Feb 26.
